Key Information
-
The new safe confinement is an insulating arch structure over the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant that was destroyed in the accident; this object covered the outdated Shelter. The arch became the largest movable ground structure.
-
Project cost: EUR 2.15 billion
-
On November 29, 2016, the arch was completed. The estimated date for the full completion of construction was 2017. Eventually, the new sarcophagus was put into operation in July 2019.
Liebert HPS
The installation of air conditioning systems in the technological premises of the confinement was carried out by the Kyiv-based company ART COMFORT.
Liebert HPS
The interior space of the NSC premises is very limited in area, so the installation of classic room or row-by-row precision air conditioners was not the optimal solution, and comfort systems did not meet the technical requirements of such a non-standard task. The choice was made in favor of Vertiv Liebert HPS ceiling-mounted air conditioners.
An important difference of the solution is that the indoor unit of this freon system is installed directly above the cold corridor, while ceiling models from other manufacturers are usually placed above server cabinets, which means there is a potential risk of condensation on IT equipment.
Implementation
In total, about thirty Liebert HPS air conditioners are installed at the facility to cool the rooms with power plants.
Some units are located even in areas with high levels of radiation, which does not prevent them from effectively performing their tasks. To increase fault tolerance, some of the air conditioners are kept in reserve, and the backup units alternate automatically - the ability to work in groups is a standard option of their controllers.
