About the company
Hosting Ukraine has been successfully providing services for hosting client resources for over 12 years.
At an early stage of development, the company built its own data centre, but this site no longer meets the needs of the growing business, so at a certain stage it was decided to create a new large-scale data centre, which was successfully commissioned in mid-2019. To maximise the energy efficiency of the data centre, a range of innovative technologies were applied, including direct freecooling units and a set of heat recovery solutions that allow hot air to be used for heating office space and water heating.
Details
The cooling system is based on Vertiv Liebert PDX cabinet air conditioners. Currently, five such air conditioners are installed at the facility, taking into account the N+1 redundancy scheme. The effective cooling capacity of each is 57 kW. However, this is only the first stage of the data centre with a permissible IT load capacity of over 200 kW. In the near future, the second segment of the data centre with similar characteristics is planned to be launched, where three more air conditioners will be installed. PDX models were chosen primarily for their energy efficiency. For example, they use a new generation of electronically controlled Liebert EC Fans 2.0 fans, which allow for significant energy savings.
The air conditioners are equipped with advanced heat exchangers that increase cooling capacity. But the main know-how in this example is direct freecooling. Thanks to the installation of special chambers combined with air conditioning, air directly from the street can be used to cool the IT equipment for most of the year. A filter system is used for purification. If the temperature outside is low enough, air from the hot corridor is mixed in, and when it is hot, compressor cooling is activated. The optimal climate is maintained automatically - it is ensured by a special Vertiv iCOM controller with precise accuracy.
The data centre's machine room has a cold corridor insulation scheme, and hot air can be directed through special ducts to office space, if necessary, to ensure that it is heated during the cold season. In addition, air conditioners with recuperators are installed in hot corridors to heat the water supplied to the office (a special tank is used for this purpose) - it is used not only for domestic purposes but also in the underfloor heating system organised in all rooms where people are constantly present. Thus, any excess heat is fully utilised for the benefit of the company.
