Removing a classic LC connector from the connector requires finger access to the latch at the top of the connector, so classic LC connectors must be spaced, which limits the mounting density on the patch panel. Typical mounting density for classic connectors is 24 duplex LC ports (48 fibers) in 1U. Increasing the density to 48 ports (96 fibers) already causes difficulties with maintenance of such a crossbar.

Connectors push-pull HUBER+SUHNER LC-HD and LC-XD are optimized for crossovers with a high density of ports, because to remove them from the adapter on the panel is enough to pull the shank of the connector. This allows to place connectors on the patch panel close to each other and increase the density up to 72 ports in 1U while maintaining the convenience of working with the crossover.
